Denver, Colorado
We arrived in Denver on Tuesday despite almost being
diverted to Wyoming due to a severe storm threatening the airport. Our pilot
told Air Traffic Control he didn’t have enough fuel to divert so they let him
land. If we all could have tipped him we would have :)
We took a tour of the ‘Mile High City’ next day. Denver is
enjoying beautiful warm weather at the moment so we had a great time exploring
this lovely town. The photos tell the story from here.
Photo 1: a typical ‘upper end’ Denver home. There are
streets of these around the many parks. Denver has more city parks by area than
any other US city.
Photo 2: Martin Luther King Memorial, opened 2002.
The Memorial was the work of Denver’s first black mayor and was paid for by
public subscription. Denver has the biggest Martin Luther King Day parade in
the US.
Photo 3: one of the many luxury homes in Mansion Row.
Photo 4: While others were photographing buildings
the Aussies were photographing squirrels. The Americans think we are nuts! :)
Photo 5: Trinity United Methodist Church, one of the
oldest in Denver.
Photos 6 and 7: The Denver Broncos football team home
ground. We explained that in Oz they would be the Denver Brumbies. I think the
Yanks gave up on us at that point :)
