Little Big Horn to
Cody
Today we traveled out of South Dakota into Wyoming again
and headed for the site of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. From there we
drove through the Big Horn Mountains down through Shell Canyon to the plains
and into Cody, Wyoming for the night. We drove through a snow storm in Granite
Pass and the temperature dropped from 24 to 5 degrees in three minutes! The
photos tell the story.
Phil also took a white water raft ride on the Shoshone River
but could not take the camera due to the inevitably of his being soaked. He
returned with a grin on his face and mostly dry thanks to the waterproof
clothing he had to wear. Lots of rapids and much fun J
Photos 1 and 2: The Little Big Horn Memorial on Last
Stand Hill. The Battle of the Little Big Horn was perhaps the most significant
of the Plains Indians War. The war resulted from US Government efforts to force
the tribes onto reservations. Lieutenant Colonel G M Custer led over 200 men
into a very unequal battle with a huge force of warriors and his command was
wiped out. The memorial site commemorates both the US army soldiers and native
warriors who fell here.
